CJ NELSON
entire life. As a young child he would go with his dad, Jeff
Phillips, and race their front motor topfuel dragster. At the
age of 4, they began racing the Out-A-Sight Blown Fuel
Hydro, which was the national record holder for four years.
At age 11 they returned to the dragstrip with the
Out-A-Sight, Alcohol Funny Car. The transition back to
topfuel came about 7 years later, with the Out-A-Sight,
Blown Fuel Funny Car and Fuel Altered. Discussions of moving
to a 300 inch wheel base got the best of them in 2001, with
the Phillips Racing Top Fuel Dragster. In 2002, shortly
before Jeff's passing, Robert teamed up with driver, CJ
Nelson. With Robert's extensive knowledge combined with
CJ's driving abilities, this team has a lot to look forward to.
he raced in the open wheel circuit and later a Fuel
Altered. He was also the crew chief on a Top Alcohol
Dragster for many years. Fast acceleration and the
G-force it creates is second nature to CJ. While serving
our country, CJ flew fighter jets for not only the US Air
Force but the US Navy as well. He was also a Top Gun
Instructor. CJ has continued his love for flying as a
commercial pilot for nearly the past 30 years. So whether
he is in the skies above 25,000 feet at over 550 MPH or
on the track, 3 inches above the track at 300 MPH, CJ
flies to the finish.
